Westside Infant-Family Network (WIN) Clinical Director, Dr. Wendy
Sun, Receives Professional Endorsement
Dr. Sun is one of only 52 mental health professionals in the state to
receive Infant Mental Health endorsement
LOS ANGELES, CA, February 7, 2011 – Dr. Wendy Sun, Clinical Director of
Westside Infant-Family Network (WIN), is among the first 52 California
clinicians endorsed by the California Center for Infant-Family and Early
Childhood Mental Health to provide mental health services to infants,
young children and families. This endorsement marks the culmination of
over two decades of work to create and finalize a unified set standards
of training and competencies that mark a clinician as qualified to train
and mentor other clinicians in early childhood and infant mental health.
The endorsement recognizes that Dr. Sun’s professional preparation and
experience meet the set of refined, evidence-based training guidelines
and recommended competencies described in the California Training
Guidelines and Personnel Competencies for Infant-Family and Early
Childhood Mental Health, 2009. With this endorsement, she is deemed
proficient in possessing the complexity of skills and knowledge needed
to support the social and emotional development and well-being of
infants and young children within the context of their early
relationships, family, community and culture. The official endorsement

WIN Collaboration in Culver City News!
Charitable collaboration chalks up accolades
by Sandra Coopersmith | Culver City News
3/17/11
Imagine what could be accomplished by the helping hands of multiple
nonprofits united by a shared vision. That’s what the Lodestar
Foundation did, and as a result, developed the Collaboration Prize, a
national award designed to identify and showcase models of innovative
collaboration among nonprofit organizations.
There are eight finalists for this year’s prize, and among them is
Westside Infant-Family Network (WIN), a Culver City-based collaboration
that includes Westside Children’s Center, Venice Family Clinic and St.
Joseph Center. The triumvirate was designed to help stabilize and
strengthen families with children (prenatal through age 3) by providing
culturally sensitive, bilingual mental health care regardless of ability to
pay, together with a host of connections to community resources.
Of the more than 800 applicants consisting of a collaboration of two or
more nonprofits, WIN is the only one from California.

Westside Infant-Family Network (WIN) Celebrates its Independence
WIN launches as its own nonprofit corporation
CULVER CITY, CA, July 1, 2011- On July 1, 2011, the Westside Infant-
Family Network (WIN) celebrated its first WINdependence day.
Founded in 2005 through the collective vision of Venice Family Clinic,
Westside Children’s Center, St. Joseph Center, and other social
service agencies, WIN provides unique mental health services tailored
to the needs of the most vulnerable children and families in west Los
Angeles.
What WIN Does
When a preschooler is about to be expelled for chronic violent
behavior or an otherwise healthy baby lays listless and unsmiling day
after day, WIN services can make a real difference. WIN’s innovative
collaborative program deeply integrates its own in-home mental
health therapy for young children and their families with express,
case-managed access to the medical, social service and early
care/education services of its partner agencies. Through intensive
therapy and integrated community services children get what they
need to recover and thrive before untreated mental health issues
can have long-term effects on health and social, educational and
emotional growth.
How We Do It
WIN is a unique blend of old-world service (we make house calls!) and
new, web-based infrastructure that keep services manageable for
staff and families. Through its personalized, multi-agency services,
WIN and its partners have transformed the lives of hundreds of
families by interrupting trans-generational cycles of trauma. Just as
importantly, it has also created a replicable model for a system of
care that demonstrates how cross-sector, cross-agency services can
work for families—and for the agencies that serve them.
Why WIN Went Independent
For its first six years, WIN operated under its fiscal sponsor and
partner agency, Westside Children’s Center. By establishing itself as
a non-profit corporation, WIN is making a long-term commitment to
the community. “WIN’s independence means an exciting new chapter
for our program,” said Anna Henderson, WIN’s Executive Director.
“With the dedicated leadership of a talented young board and
greater access to individual and public funding, WIN will continue to
be where families need us most, as well as train clinicians throughout
greater Los Angeles, and impact broader policy efforts nationwide.”
WIN Accomplishments
In its first five years, WIN has won national accolades for its innovative
services:
• In 2011, WIN was selected from among 807 original applications
as one of 8 finalists in the nation for the Collaboration Prize created
by the Lodestar Foundation, an organization dedicated to maximizing
the growth and impact of philanthropy;
• In 2008-09, WIN was featured in a white paper by the W.K.
Kellogg Foundation, as one of eight “exemplary place-based early
childhood initiatives,” in the nation that have successfully integrated
efforts across multiple service sectors;
• In 2007, WIN was recognized nationally by the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation (Local Funding Partnerships) as one of 12 new
innovative health-focused programs in the country.
